Easy breath work exercises – taught by Yogi Bhajan on 6/7/76.
Breath work is a an amazing meditation, that alters your energy just by changing your nostril breathing.
You can’t escape your body, but you can change its energy field.
The exercises listed below are an easy and effective way to alleviate stress by changing the blocked subtle energies that leave us feeling drained and depressed.
If you catch yourself feeling or thinking neurotic and find that you’re breathing through your right nostril, start breathing through your left nostril instead.
This changes your energy from agni (fire) to seetali (cool).
If you feel easily irritated, deeply depressed, and in a weird mental state, start breathing from the right nostril. Within 3 minutes you should feel like a completely different person. Exercising this ability is said to prevent nervous breakdowns.
Posture: Sit in a comfortable meditative posture with your spine straight. Raise your head to the heavens and feel yourself deeply rooted to the earth.
Mudra: Interlace your fingers with your right thumb on top. Place your hands at the center of your diaphragm line, touching your body.
Eyes: Close your eyes gently.
Breath: Concentrate on your breath at the tip of your nose. See from which nostril you are breathing. Within 3 minutes you should know. Then change it. If you are breathing primarily through your left nostril, consciously change to your right nostril.
Be sure to keep your shoulders completely relaxed. You should have a pressure at your hands, but none at your shoulders.
Time: Practice changing this breath back and forth for as long as you like. Continue for up to 31 minutes.
